Principal Torres-Khalil, In Memoriam
Mrs. Lupe Torres-Khalil
Lupe Torres-Khalil led Garfield Community School as its principal until her passing in March of 2024.
Ms. Torres-Khalil's philosophy on education emphasized student development as a focus of four areas: academical, social, physical and emotional. Under her leadership, the Garfield team worked tirelessly to ensure that students were held to a high expectation, but were also supported in many ways.
Garfield's approach to education is clear: to lead a school where students identify greatness as a goal, where everyone has a gift and areas to growth, and where learning comes in a caring supporting manner.
Parents are encouraged to engage and participate with the school. Ms. Torres-Khalil was a strong advocate for students. Parents always relied on her dedication to finding solutions that benefitted Garfield's children, their families, and the community.
Ms. Torres-Khalil devoted her entire career to Redwood City children. She started as a teacher at Taft and was tapped to move to Garfield as assistant principal, becoming the school’s principal a decade later in 2020.
Redwood City School District will always honor her memory.
